The latest update to WordPress has been named in honor of jazz singer Dinah Washington. The WordPress core developers must really love their jazz, since this isn’t the first release to be named after a jazz musician. WordPress 4.1 includes a new default theme Twenty Fifteen. The new theme uses the Google font Noto. If you are running a blog, give the theme a try.
In this new version of WordPress is enhanced distraction free writing. All the peripheral stuff disappears but the tools you need appear when you want them.
Another feature that started appearing in the previous version is built-in language support. WordPress has been translated into over forty languages already with more being added all the time.
Do you use multiple devices (PC, table, smartphone) to manage your WordPress site(s)? Now you can log out of a web site on all your devices simultaneously from your profile page.
WordPress 4.1 now supports embedding Vine videos. Just paste the URL of the video on a separate line and WordPress does the rest.
Not sure what plugins you should install? WordPress 4.1 suggests some recommended plugins on the Add New Plugin screen.
As always, IWD cautions you from installing new versions without making sure you have a full backup of your files and your database. If you have quite a few plugins installed, you will also want to make sure that the ones you depend upon for site functionality support WordPress 4.1. If you don’t feel confident in upgrading on your own, we will gladly assist you.
